Monster Energy Rail Jam Kicks Off Dallas Boat Show

By Geiger Media Press Release

DALLAS, TX. - The Monster Energy Drink was flowing, the wakeboarders were flying high and the crowds were cheering wildly as some of the top wakeboarders in the state of Texas descended on Dallas Market Hall for the Monster Energy Wakeboard Rail Jam. It was the featured attraction of the all new Outdoor Expo Area at the 22nd Annual Dallas Summer Boat Show.

The "Monster" set-up was provided by Orlando based Step-Up Productions who lived up to their name by building an impressive three pool course that included a forty foot rail coming out of a raised starting pool twelve feet off the ground into a huge sixty-by-thirty foot landing pool. They also had a ground level pool with a kicker over a fifteen foot gap to the landing pool.

"We created the new Outdoor Expo area to bring a little added excitement to the summer show," said Frank Pillsbury, Marketing Director for the Boat Show. "The goal was to give consumers even more reasons to attend the show by providing added features that are fun for the whole family…and it worked!"

The wakeboard demos started on Friday evening and continued throughout the weekend. The bleachers were filled at every performance and the crowds were treated to some insane wakeboarding action from some of the top pro and local riders in the state, including CWB pro team rider Gabe Lucas, Liquid Force pro team rider Tom Fooshee and Bret Little, who was recently signed to the Byerly pro wakeskate team after his first place win at the Byerly Toe Jam in June. They were joined by brothers Clint and Collin Gee, Eric Nickstad, Brad Allen, Ross Skrudland, Richie McKee, Earl Ball, Joe Lemberg and a very special appearance from one of the original Texas rippers, Chris "Big Air" Ramirez.

In addition to Monster Energy Drink, the new Outdoor Expo area was made possible with support from MarineMax, Sewell Hummer, Geico Insurance, the Dallas Morning News and H20 Clothing.

"There is no doubt the Monster Energy Wakeboard Rail Jam helped us make the new Outdoor Expo a home run," said Pillsbury, "In addition to providing great entertainment for show attendees, it provided an excellent venue for our sponsor/partners to receive maximum exposure to a very important group of consumers in a relaxed, fun, atmosphere…and that's what makes for a good event!"

Wakestock 10 Finals

By Wakestock Press Release

Toronto, Canada - Wakestock's famed wakeboarding belts were awarded today in six different pro wake events capping the 10th anniversary of one of the most storied contests in the sport of wakeboarding and wakeskating.

In an historic final day both Philip Soven and Keith Lidberg defended their respective Wakestock titles, while Brian Grubb and Shane Bonifay returned to earn repeat titles.

First up was the Billabong Pro Wakeskate where three-time Wakestock champion and wakeskate legend, Brian Grubb, faced off against the new generation including three Wakestock rookies. Despite some incredible riding by rising talents Nick Taylor, Aaron Rathy, Ben Horan, Ryan Doyle and Stuart Shinn, Grubb was flawless. In fact, he didn't fall all weekend and stuck the first toeside wake-to-wake frontside bigspin ever stomped in competition. Grubb's performance easily earned him his fourth Wakestock title and belt.

Next came the Billabong Pro Railslide featuring the best rail riders on the biggest and toughest rails in the sport. As rail finalist Andrew Adkison put it, "The Billabong Pro at Wakestock is essentially the world championships of wakeboard rail riding." Keith Lidberg, the world's premier rail master prevailed in Pro Railslide, but not without a fight from Aaron Rathy and Kevin Henshaw, who were forced to settle for 2nd and 3rd respectively. However, Lidberg's ultra smooth style and high degree of technical difficulty won the day and his third consecutive Wakestock Rail Title and Belt.

The Malibu Boats Expression Session was held late in the afternoon under hot sunny skies and pristine water conditions. The final four came down to Soven versus Jeff Weatherall and Rusty Malinoski versus Andrew Adkison. Soven packaged a perfect run of 11 tech tricks including a switch toe 9 and a nose grab crow mobe 540 plus two flawless rail tricks to dispatch Weatherall. Then, in one of the closest duels of the contest, Adkison edged crowd favourite Malinoski, the reigning WWA World Series champ. Adkison, a two time world champion, gave Soven a run for his money, but fell twice, including his double-up. Soven responded with another flawless standup run. Knowing he had the victory, Soven attempted a backside 9, a first in competition, but just missed. Soven's two consecutive Expression Session titles was a Wakestock first.

After receiving his Wakestock award belt, Soven commented, "I really enjoy competing at Wakestock because it has such a big crowd and the water and the wake is so great here!" Adkison agreed, "The Wakestock spectator crowd is the largest and most enthusiastic on tour. They really get you pumped up to ride! That's why a lot of firsts go down at Wakestock."

The last event, and arguably the most sensational, was the Oakley Pool Jam Best Wakeboard Trick contest. The spectacular opening rail transfer over a 14-stair set was where all of the best tricks were being thrown down. That was where all of the photographers and filmers were gathered to catch the battle between Shane and Parks Bonifay, JD Webb, Aaron Rathy and JD Webb. But with a perfect switch frontside boardslide to backside 180 transfer to boardslide to 90, it was Shane Bonifay who prevailed, reclaiming the Oakley Pool Jam title he had won at Wakestock 2005.

Music highlights included performances by Story of the Year, Lupe Fiasco and Canadian favourite illScarlet. A record crowd of 39,000 turned out for Wakestock's four-day festival of action sports and music.

Wakestock 10 Semifinals

By Wakestock Press Release

Toronto, Canada -- With the "Final Day" yet to transpire, Wakestock #10 has already blown minds with incredible performances from athletes and bands alike.

Where to start? How about the record crowd turnout during the first three days of this massive wakeboarding, action sports and music festival. It was incredible to tour the Wakestock site on Toronto Island Park to see thousands jamming multiple events, thousands lining the water course for the Billabong Railslide and Malibu Expression Session, thousands in front of the Telus Main Stage, thousands at the RGX Skatepark for the Element Demo and Street comp and thousands at the Oakley Pool Jam all at the same time. Close to 40,000 are expected to attend Wakestock 2007 during it's four action-packed days.

The Oakley Pool is, without a doubt, the sickest wake pool ever built! Three pools and multiple rail sets covering over 400 feet of real estate. The new addition of the giant 80-foot funbox between the 2nd and 3rd pools was where the wakeskaters were throwing down huge stunts, with a new generation of skaters leading the charge. In a breakout performance, Stuart Shinn claimed the Oakley Pool Jam Best Trick with a massive 360 Shuv over the funbox.

Shinn also threw down one of the best semi-finals runs in the Billabong Wakeskate Finals, including a flawless Backside 3, Cab 3 and Backside 180 to qualify into the top eight. Joining Shinn were Wakestock rookies Nick Taylor and Ben Horan who will battle established stars Brian Grubb, Aaron Rathy, Drew McGuckin, and Chase Gregory. Taylor took down Wakestock 2005 vice-champion Reed Hansen enroute to the finals. Taylor nailed a Frontside 3, Cab 3, Backside 180 and a kickflip.

In the Malibu Boats Expression Session semis was a close head to head battle between a who's who of wake superstars. When the spray settled, it was Wakestock defending champ Philip Soven displacing Collin Harrington and Wakestock 2005 champ Rusty Malinoski moving past Olivier Derome. Soven and Malinoski having been dueling all year, so Wakestock may see an epic final between the sports two top ranked riders. But there are several other standout riders that can equally challenge, especially considering how much the big Billabong rail course factors in at Wakestock. Look out for incredible performances from Danny Harf, Jeff Weatherall, JD Webb, Andrew Adkison, Adam Errington and Dean Smith.

In the Billabong Pro Railslide, two time defending champ Keith Lidberg and challenger Collin Harrington both slayed the two 90 foot sliders including stomped 450's over the 20' high gap rail. Lidberg took down Danny Harf and Harrington edged out Parks Bonifay. Joining Lidberg and Harrington in the final eight are Chad Sharpe, JD Webb, Trevor Hansen, Kevin Henshaw, Andrew Adkison, and Aaron Rathy.

While the world's best wakeboarders were thrilling crowds on the water, four of planet's top skateboarders were destroying Wakestock's custom built RGX Skatepark. Element Skateboard's Pro Skaters Chad Muska, Chad Tim Tim, Collin Provost and Levi Brown had thousands cheering their demo and lining up for autographs afterwards. Canada's top am skaters were throwing down for $10,000 in the Element Island of the Ams and $500 Milk Mini Ramp contest. Finals for both contest go Sunday.

Music has always been an integral part of Wakestock, but the band line-up for the 10th anniversary has been all time. The Deftones delivered a blistering one and a half hour performance to cap a heavy afternoon on the TELUS Main Stage featuring Goldfinger and De La Soul. The Deftones also headlined a special Wakestock Club Concert the night before with huge Canadian band Alexis On Fire. A Skate 4 Cancer benefit concert, the show went down as one Canada's biggest club shows of the summer!

The debut of Element Skateboards' "Island of the Ams" contest and the Milk Mini-Ramp contest brought out hundreds of Canada's top am skaters. The contests though almost played secondary billing to the Element Pro Team demo led by skate legend Chad Muska. Thousands cheered on Muska as he gapped a huge line no one else anticipated from the top of the highest drop-in to a lower flat bank in the RGX Skatepark.

Other Wakestock highlights included the finals of the Miss Reef Canada Bikini contest and the RGX Freestyle Moto-x Air Assualt. Wherever you looked at Wakestock, there was was heavy action!

Stay tuned to www.wakestock.com for final results and reports from Wakestock's Final Day. Wakestock is presented by Bud Light and TELUS, in conjunction with Malibu Boats, Billabong, Oakley, Element Skateboards, RGX (Right Guard Extreme), Milk, Extreme Music Series, Reef, Gordon Bay Marine, Paris Marine and Yamaha.

Portland Pro Tour Stop - Day 2 of 2

By WSM Press Release

Portland, OR – Rusty Malinoski, 23, and Phillip Soven, 18, have battled on the water all season long for the 2007 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour title. Today, both riders went head-to-head in the season-ending match that determined who would earn a year's worth of bragging rights and the largest cash payout in tour history, the $10,000 Indmar Performance Award.

In an intense match-up on the water, Phillip Soven emerged victorious. In doing so, the Florida native earned his fourth win of the season and captured his first overall tour title. Malinoski finished both second in the contest and for the season. Chad Sharpe placed third overall.

The Rip It Apparatus Award went to Brett Eisenhauer for his helside backside off-axis 720.

The Pro Women division also hit the water today for their final round of competition. Shelby Kantar upset frontrunner Amber Wing in the finals to capture the victory in Portland and claim her first overall title. Wing placed second at the contest and overall. Emily Copeland Durham took third for the season.

AJ Racinelli went into today's Rip It JX Series finals looking to claim his fourth win of the season, but was upset by the only other rider to win a tour stop this year, Mitch Langfield. However, all was not lost for Racinelli, as he earned enough points in the final event of the season to capture the overall title for the Rip It JX Series. Jimmy LaRiche took second place on the season with Ryan Anderson finishing third.

Portland Pro Tour Stop - Day 1 of 2

By WSM Press Release

Portland, OR – Fans came pouring into Blue Lake Park today to watch the best wakeboarders in the world compete in the opening rounds of the 2007 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour season-ending event. With season titles on the line for the Pro Men, Pro Women, and Rip It JX Series Divisions, Portland area fans were treated to some of the most exciting and intense riding seen yet.

All eyes today were on Pro Men Division riders Danny Harf, Rusty Malinoski, Chad Sharpe and Phillip Soven, as all four shredders are in contention for the overall season title and the largest cash prize in tour history, the $10,000 Indmar Performance Award. Malinoski, Soven, Sharpe, and Harf not only advanced past today's quarterfinals, but each led their heats as well. Competition will conclude tomorrow where one of these four riders will be named tour champion.

Amber Wing led the Pro Women's Division today during their semifinals. With current division leader, Emily Copeland Durham, failing to advance past today's semifinals, Wing is now the frontrunner for the season title. However, it will not be easy for the Australia native, as Wing will be joined by Melissa Marquardt, Raequel Hoffman, Shelby Kantar, Sunni Anne Ball, Laura Lohrmann, Maeghan Major, and Nicola Butler for tomorrow's final round of competition.

AJ Racinelli is well on his way to claiming his fourth win of the season and possibly the overall title, after leading his heat today during the Rip It JX Series quarterfinals. Racinelli will ride against eight other riders in tomorrow's semifinals. The top four riders from the semifinals will then proceed to the final round of competition, where one rider will be crowned the overall winner.

Competition will begin tomorrow morning at 9:30.

Oakley Announces Wake Film "Push Process"

By Oakley Press Release

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. – Oakley and 1242 Productions’ latest HD action sports film showcases the progression of wakeboarding and wakeskating through a travelogue of the world’s best riders. Join these athletes as they chase down perfect water in the world’s most exotic locations.

Collaborating with acclaimed filmmaker Justin Stephens and graphic artist Chase Heavener, Oakley’s Push Process combines experimental cinematography, editing and animation graphics with the most progressive riding ever documented on the big screen.

"Having a solid and creative support system has become a key ingredient in every film I've worked on,” says director Justin Stephens. “Putting in the time and energy to assemble the best crew yet is something we are very proud of. I can honestly say I'm more excited than ever to show everyone what we have going on right now."

Oakley athletes Keith Lyman, Aaron Rathy, Andrew Adkison, Amber Wing, George Daniels, Danny Hampson, Dallas Friday and Jack Blodgett are more than just the stars who create the epic footage — they are members of the production team, all playing pivotal roles in the project since day one.

"Push Process is a detailed account of what it’s like to be involved with an underground movement,” says Executive Producer, Matty Swanson. “The movie is about the process of pushing our team to new heights, setting goals resulting in groundbreaking moments within the sport of wakeboarding.”

Shot exclusively in HD, Push Process takes viewers on a quest to Australia, South Africa, the Florida Keys, Cuba, Minnesota, the Amazon, Canada and beyond.

The ride of your life begins at the World Premier, November 10 at Oakley Headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California.
